Cape Reinga.jpg

Cape Reinga

At the very far North tip of the North Island, this is a fantastic destination for any visitor to New Zealand. Where the Tasman Sea meet the Pacific Ocean, this is a place where nature can put on a fantastic display when the conditions are right, or you can indulge in the cultural myths of departed souls.

There's no better way to visit this spot than on a cruiser hire from us!

Estimated travel time: 5hr 33min

Rawene, Hokianga

Up on the Hokianga harbour, there's a quiet little town with the best campsite and fish and chips North of Auckland.  At Rawene Holiday Park they can offer tent sites, powered sites and cabins at a great rate.

In the town centre, you'll find great eateries from Fish and Chips, cafes and Restaurants.

If you're not done with your travel, there's a car ferry to take you and your motorcycle hire across to the other side of the Kaipara Harbour and further north along as far as you want to go.

Estimated travel time: 3hr 52min

Karikari Peninsula, Northland

If beautiful white-sand beaches and iconic landscapes are your thing, you can't miss out on Karikari Peninsula. Just 30 minutes drive from Kaitaia, you can find a popular DOC free campsite at Maitai Bay right next to the water to enjoy the Kiwi beach Summer. Along the Peninsula are other great scenic beaches like Waipapa Beach and Maitai Bay Scenic Reserve.

This should be a 'must see' destination on your Northland motorbike hire trip.

Mangonui, Northland

Mangōnui is an historic picturesque fishing village in the Far North with friendly cafe's and a wide range of water-based activities to explore.  Next to several popular holiday beaches, it's a great base to explore the Northern Region. In the town centre, you'll find great eateries from cafes and Restaurants and the Mangonui Hotel is a fantastic historic Hotel offering cheap accommodations, adjoining bar and in-house fresh Fish and Chips. A "must see" destination while you're there would have to be Butler Point Whaling Museum (appointment required) which paints a rich and colourful history of whaling in NZ and is a fantastic day out.

Dickey Flat.jpg

Dickey Flat Campsite, Karangahape Gorge

Down in the Karangahake Gorge, there's another great DOC campsite to try out. With minimal facilities (longdrops only), it's not a glam site, but it is very popular all the same.

Nestled on the Ohinemuri River (or Karangahape river) it has both deep and shallow swimming holes to suit everyone and a bridge that crosses the river to take you on a bush (and tunnel) walk all the way into the Karangahake gorge and through the famous Gold mine ruins that are so popular with tourists.

At $10 per person per night, it's a cheap place to bunk for a night or two. No booking required.

Waihi is just 14 minutes away when you've had enough of peace and seclusion

Estimated travel time: 1hr 51min

Tucks Bay, Coromandel

If you're heading to Coromandel for a few days, Tucks Bay is a great place to go for a bit of quiet reflection.

The Tucks Bay campsite is part of Long Bay Motor Camp, but seperate from the main campsite. There's no power sites and no amenities block (just long drops and tap water) but you can access the shower block at the main campsite.

It's a great place for trying a bit of 'safe' rock fishing or beach fishing if you prefer and at $30pp it's affordable tranquility.

Estimated travel time: 2hr 47min
